The sound of silence

I have brought in some art postcards to share with my students. Now the conversations are more enjoyable. If the kid just sits there with his mouth open emitting the sound of space/time travel (or a rather fantastic impression of Mr. Bush), at least I have something interesting to look at. The open-ended, relaxed, no goal aspects of these conversations reduce the level of strain – both for me and the boys. I still wouldn’t call these discussions stimulating, but they’re a step up from mind numbing.

A small step, but an important one.
