Indeed this is one of the finest films in the "films about food and love" category. Filmmaker Itami also made "Minba" an exceptional film lapooning the Yakuza (Japanese organized crime syndicate) which (allegedly) led to his unfortunate demise (falling out of a skyscrpaer window if i recall correctly). Other films (also featuring his real life wife) include "the Taxing Woman" and "the Taxing woan returns."
